Our Bank Account is Heaven’s Bank Account

You may ask how my bank account can be Heaven’s bank account. Well, we should understand that God has given us everything we need and we should understand that our bank account belongs to Him. The scripture in 2 Peter 1:3 (NLT) “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life”. In other words, we have the right to receive everything we need for life. This is satisfying because it lets us know we can depend on God. God is our source. Even though we make our own money by working on a job, we have to know that our job was given to us and God gave us favor to get this job. It may be the right job and position you need to make money so that you can take care of your family. We get paid every two weeks or monthly or every week. God wants us to be good stewards of the money or assets He has blessed us with. We can trust Him to help us be a better steward of these assets.

How to be a better steward of what God has given us. We can achieve this by being careful about how we spend God’s money. In the bible, we are put in charge as a manager and found faithful. 1 Corinthians 4:2 (NKJ): “Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful”. If you are put as a manager over for example of a fast-food restaurant, you are responsible for handling the money, the supplies, employees, etc. This is the same as how you should care for God’s money. This puts you in a position to take care of everything God has given you. If you are not being a good steward, consider changing your finances.

You can change how you handle finances to be a good steward of your money. Find ways to reduce your expenses and increase your income. If you have a surplus at the end of the month, you are a good steward. If you are a giver, giving your tithe and offering and giving to other organizations and have enough left over, this demonstrates stewardship. You are taking care of what God blesses you with, and you have extra left over to pay all your bills and other expenses and put money aside for savings. We cannot leave off savings.

A savings account will help keep funds available and ready to use when necessary. Emergency funds are needed because there will be times when a rainy day will happen. Emergency funds should consist of 3 to 6 months of expenses. It may take time to fund your emergency. You can be in a position to work towards having emergency funds. Make a plan to begin setting aside funds for your emergency. When you set a plan, see yourself accomplishing it. It doesn’t matter how long it takes but the fact you are working to fund it.

We should all strive for a surplus at the end of every month. To ensure we have a surplus, reduce or remove some of your expenses. This will demonstrate that we can be great managers of God’s money because we are within budget. Pay more attention to how you manage God’s money because it does not belong to you. Our bank account is Heaven’s bank account.

Grace & peace,
